Mary Colurso of The Birmingham News recently conducted an interview with Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

On enduring a severe case of spinal stenosis (with herniated discs and bone spurs):

Mustaine: “Last summer during the [Rockstar Energy DrinkMayhem[Festival] tour, everything just went south. Something had broken in the back of my neck; I had a bone fragment in my spinal column the size of an eraser. The pain when I was moving my neck had me on my knees, sobbing. My son had never seen me this way. My hand went numb. My ring and pinky finger were not communicating with my brain. … But the surgery was a complete success. I had a disc fused in my neck, and the feeling has returned completely to my left hand. It shows you how God’s with me in everything you do.” Continue reading »

Megadeth will perform its 1992 album, Countdown To Extinction, in its entirety on September 7 at Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, Chile.

Speaking to the Artisan NewsEllefson stated about the LP, “‘Countdown’ was really one of my favorite records of the whole Megadeth catalog… for a number of reasons. Musically, I think it brought together the best of thrash, the melodic part, writing big, hooky riffs. And that record really launched us into the mainstream, which opened up a lot of other opportunites and things for us to do. But more importantly, I think, than all of that, is it was a really cool time when the four of us were really, probably, our most connected together as a band.” Continue reading »

Regarding his decision to call his group Love An DeathWelch recently said, “I put this band together in 2009. Since then, we’ve experienced some very intense highs and lows. Michael ValentineDan JohnsonJ.R. Bareis and myself have toured around the world playing a lot of killer shows, but we’ve also had some heart-shattering difficulties along the way. To us, the name Love And Death symbolizes everything we’ve been through as a band over the last few years. We love this band so much and we’ll go through hell to connect with our fans. We’ve proven that to ourselves over and over again.” Continue reading »

Daniel Brockman of The Boston Phoenix recently conducted an interview with Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

The Boston Phoenix: Revisiting this band and this material, are you struck at all by how much things have changed, how much metal has changed in the nine years since you left Killswitch?

Jesse: Metal has changed, but I’ve changed as well. And that’s what’s exciting about rejoining this band and doing the new record. I’ve always been a fan of the music that they call metalcore, this crossbreeding of hardcore and metal, but what passes for metalcore today I’m not a fan of. It’s been a by-numbers watered down thing. I mean, God Forbid, In Flames, Mastodon, these are metalcore bands that I love, so I’m speaking in general terms. Continue reading »

Heavy PlanetEric, I think back when you left Trouble in 2008, it was more or less that you were tired of the touring life, is that correct?

Eric Wagner: Well, at that point… I was a little sick of it. I was sick of doing the same old songs every night. And I just wanted to write. I had a bunch of songs I’d been working on on my own and I just kind of wanted to chill and work on those and put together my own thing, just to grow. Continue reading »
